EMODnet Human Activities
(
WWW:LINK
)
EMODnet Human Activities aims to facilitate access to existing marine data on activities carried out in EU waters, by building a single entry point for geographic information on human uses of the ocean. The portal makes available information such as geographical position, spatial extent of a series of activities related to the sea, their temporal variation, time when data was provided, and attributes to indicate the intensity of each activity. The data are aggregated and presented so as to preserve personal privacy and commercially-sensitive information. The data also include a time interval so that historic as well as current activities can be included.

- Statement
- The geodatabase for marine finfish aquaculture sites in the EU relies on the data collected by MS under the framework of Council Directive 2006/88/EC for animal health status ( https://ec.europa.eu/food/animals/live_animals/aquaculture_en ).The harmonisation work involved the following steps:- (1) Identify species when available, translate them into English and harmonise into farm types based on species and relationship with Eurostat nomenclature for species and species groups. Details provided in the datasets vary from detailed scientific names to national common names. (2) Identify translate and harmonise, production stages (Grow out for human consumption, Hatchery, Nursery, Broodstock, Reproduction, Restoration of wild stock, Put and take fisheries, Processing facility, Slaughtering facility, Other, n.a.) and production methods (Sea cages, Saltwater tanks/racaways, Saltwater ponds, Saltwater closed (recirculation), Quarantine, Other, n.a.) (3) Data cleaning: duplicates, missing or erroneous geographic coordinates, etc. ; (4) Convert all data sets into the same reference system (WGS 84). Most important producing countries where data are missing are Italy, Croatia, France, Portugal and Germany.
