  • EVHOE surveys have been providing observational data on bentho-demersal communities on the continental shelves of the Bay of Biscay and the Celtic Sea for more than 30 years. The surveys operate a standardized fishing gear and are conducted on the continental shelves from 15 to 600 m depth, usually in the fourth quarter of the year, starting at the end of October. The main objectives are the monitoring of 22 stocks of benthic fish species and 10 cephalopods from the North-East Atlantic. The data also provide a description of regional diversity by including 250 taxa of fish and 45 taxa of cephalopods and others “commercial” invertebrates. The dataset is structured in 3 tables providing information on stations, numbers, biomass of observed species and size distributions for a selection of species. This dataset is of great interest for the long-term monitoring of the continental shelves of the Bay of Biscay and the Celtic Sea. Moreover, on a larger scale, by being integrated into a European network of bottom trawl surveys, these data play an essential role in studying the evolution of ecosystems from continental shelves to the scale of the eastern North Atlantic.

  • Rocch, the french "mussel watch", provides regulatory data for shellfish area quality management. Once a year, molluscs (mainly mussels and oysters) were sampled at fixed periods (currently mid-February, with a tolerance of one tide before and after the target date) on 70 to 80  monitoring stations in areas used as bivalve molluscs production. For each monitoring station, molluscs are collected in wild beds or facilities, ensuring a minimum stay of 6 months on-site before sampling. The individuals selected are adults of a single species and uniform size (30 to 60 mm long for mussels, 2 to 3 years old for oysters, and commercial size for other species). A minimum of 50 mussels (and other species of similar size) or 10 oysters is required to constitute a representative pooled sample. Lead, mercury, cadmium, PAHs, PCBs, dioxins and, since 2023, regulated PFASs are analysed in molluscs tissues.

  • The ARCHYD dataset, which have been collected since 1988, represents the longest long-term hydrologic data sets in Arcachon Bay. The objectives of this monitoring programme are to assess the influence of oceanic and continental inputs on the water quality of the bay and their implications on biological processes. It also aims to estimate the effectiveness of management policies in the bay by providing information on trends and/or shifts in pressure, state, and impact variables. Sampling is carried on stations spread across the entire bay, but since 1988, the number and location of stations have changed slightly to better take into account the gradient of ocean and continental inputs. In 2005, the ARCHYD network was reduced to 8 stations that are still sampled by Ifremer to date. All the stations are sampled at a weekly frequency, at midday, alternately around the low spring tide and the high neap tide. Data are complementary to REPHY dataset. Physico-chemical measures include temperature, salinity, turbidity, suspended matters (organic, mineral), dissolved oxygen and dissolved inorganic nutrients (ammonium, nitrite+nitrate, phosphate, silicate). Biological measures include pigment proxies of phytoplankton biomass and state (chlorophyll a and phaeopigment).
